CHAPTER EIGHT: Wednesday: My Last Night

The shouting from the basement was unclear. Two things I did understand, ( 1 ) Peg was not alone in the basement and ( 2 ) If I went downstairs while the ladies were changing, I'd be in alot of trouble. I called back downstairs,"Hey! Hey! Don't worry ladies! I was just kidding. I know better than to come downstairs when you're changing." They shouted at me again but I wasn't listening, I was walking toward the grill area.

At the grill, James was cooking three hamburgers that were already turned. The rolls were dressed and staged on the dressing table. James was facing the grill, watching the burgers cook. I said,"James, you did a good job on those dishes tonight." He replied,"Yeah, sure. If I knew there was going to be two of you on grill on a Wednesday night, I wouldn't have busted to get them done." I said,"Oh, come on. You would have done them anyway. Wouldn't you?" I walked into the grill area, James was holding the spatula waiting for the exact moment to remove the burgers. "Maybe yes, and maybe no." I walked toward the refrigerator, James called out,"Cheese three?" A Cashier called,"AH! Cheese on two!" James called back,"Thank-you!"

I opened the door to the Walk-in refrigerator and looked inside,"James, you even cleaned the Walk-in?" He grunted a loud,"YUP!" I said,"Did you stock up the food bin so you could clean and you didn't have to cook?" He replied,"Yeah, we stocked up right after dinner and didn't have to cook anything until around nine." "Wow. Did you make anybody sick?" "Naw. If they don't like it they bring it back and we make 'em a fresh one. That's the way we always do it when Judy works. There aren't any problems." I said,"H-m-m-m, Judy seems to know what she's doing." He replied, "Yeah, Judy's okay."
